Ludwig Elementary Drum Method

Coming Soon!

Master teacher Andrew V. Scott’s first beginner drum method was published by Ludwig and Ludwig in 1925, but was never available for retail sale. It was only included with the purchase of new Ludwig trap kits in the 1920s. Because of this quirk, it has been extremely rare for the past 100 years. For the first time ever, I have made it easily available for purchase from Amazon without a corresponding drum kit. The convenient 8×10 paperback format mirrors the size of the original fairly well while providing users with all the original drum content and pagination of the first edition.

Includes instruction on rhythm reading and notation, sticking and rolls, kick drum playing (one of the earlier books to include this), several basic rudiments, and auxiliary percussion instrument techniques.

Andrew V. Scott was considered by many, including William F. Ludwig, to be one of the great players and teachers of his era. He would go on to write several other books for Ludwig, Conn, and other publishers, and was considered an expert in trap kit and popular music, orchestral percussion, and marching percussion. He was also noted as being exceptional for his ability at so many different styles of drumming and his teaching was in demand, being a staff instructor for both Ludwig and Conn in Chicago.

This historical work gives you the exact training that Ludwig thought every drummer needed to get started as a trap kit player, before moving on to more advanced method books. It is still a useful beginner book for the aspiring drummer and percussionist, providing a solid foundation in the essentials. Start your drumming career off right and/or amend your book collection with a publication that few have been able to access over the last century. Very few of my original books are truly intended for beginners, so this Elementary Method is a great companion to books like Encyclopedia Rudimentia, Rudimental Grand Tour, and even A Field Guide to 50 Drum Rudiments, which all assume some ability to read music and count. Scott will get you going so you can move on to other books with confidence.
